Synopsis
When Shinuhe heard of the assassination of the great pharaoh (Amenemhet I), who he had served for years in court, he decided to leave Egypt in desperation. He crossed the Egyptian border over the night and fled to Syria. Years passed by he put himself together to live on his new life in the foreign land, where he met Syrian chief. He walked into under the wings of the Syrian chief and fought for him to gain his trust. One day, out of jealousy of Shinuhe’s success, one of the Syrian men came out to challenge him. The Syrian was a fierce and seemed so strong to Sinuhe but he was not afraid of him at all. He certainly had a great wisdom and courage. Could he be able to save his own life at a battle, or it would be the end of his luck?
This original story was known to the world in 1960’s even made into a film. Sinuhe, who lived over 3000 years ago, has shared the same weakness and fear as a man with modern readers. He showed a strong will of success but still missed his own identity as an Egyptian. After all his success and achievement, he wished to go back to Egypt upon his dead and buried in the land of his hometown. The forgiving pharaoh embraced his weakness and allowed the old man to come back to Egypt. Sinuhe is a reflection of any self and the process of the growth and experience.
