[The hidden tales in a papyrus bundle] The Tale of a Talkative Peasant

Synopsis

Khunanubis was a diligent farmer and a good father of three children. He went to a city to sell his years of products for his family. Unfortunately, he met a greedy official  Nemtynakht on the way to market. The cunny Nemtynakht made a secret plan to take the innocent farmer’s goods away for himself. He tricked him to get into trouble and succeeded to take all the farmer’s precious goods. Khunanubis was even bitten by Nemtynakht’s servant and left with empty hands. However, he challenged against this injustice by his own speech. He pleaded to the high official Rensi for days with his great words. The farmer’s eloquent speech got into the pharaoh’s attention at royal court. Could he gain his justice and save his misfortune by his own speech?

The original texts show the author’s broad and extensive knowledge of ancient Egyptian afterlife and give us a clear idea of moral code in the ancient Egyptian society. This unknown author gains readers attention by a great humour with lots of word play and giving us a glimpse of ancient wisdom towards the world.
